Assassination Rogue: Common Mistakes with the LUX Settings
· 5 min read
Most reports that the Assassination rotation is doing nothing, or not doing something, come down to a default that does not match what the player expected. These are the ones worth checking first, and each follows from how the rotation is built.
Poisons left on None
All four poison slots default to None, so the rotation applies no poison until you pick one on the Opener tab. If your poisons are missing out of combat, this is almost always why.
Expecting AoE by default
Fan of Knives and Crimson Tempest are both off by default, and both need enemy position information. They are marked Experimental. With the defaults the rotation plays a single target.
Expecting interrupts by default
Kick on the target, Kick on any enemy casting in melee range, and Shadowstep plus Kick are separate switches, all off by default and all marked Experimental. Nothing is interrupted until you turn one on.
Turning off a bleed and wondering where the cooldowns went
Deathmark and Kingsbane are used only while both Garrote and Rupture are active on the target. If you switch Garrote or Rupture off on the Offense tab, that window never opens and the cooldowns wait.
Expecting a different opener
The opener fires only while you are stealthed and your target is in melee range, and the default is Cheap Shot. Set it to None and the rotation leaves the opening to you. See opener and stealth.
Only one defensive is on
Crimson Vial is on by default and fires below 50% health. Evasion, Feint, Cloak of Shadows, Vanish, Smoke Bomb, Healthstone and a health potion are all off until you enable them, and the potion needs an item name.
A quiet chat that looks like inaction
Chat is quiet by default. When the rotation idles, for example with no target, an unattackable target or a target out of melee range, the reason is written to the LUX log. Raise the chat level to Normal on the General tab, or use /lux log, to see it.
A humanizer delay you forgot about
The minimum delay between casts defaults to 0, which casts as fast as the global cooldown allows. If you set it above 0, ordinary casts slow down. Interrupts ignore the delay.
Experimental options treated as finished
AoE, interrupts, modifier-key actions and crowd control are implemented and still being tested in live play. Turn them on one at a time and check what they do. Every option and its default is on the Assassination page.
